How does a 200dma produce a trade - ITC

ITC has been bouncing off the 200dma for some time now. The stock has been in bull orbit since March 2009, and looks poised for a new high again. Today's action has repeated the bounce off 200, suggesting the bulls have not yet given up.

Cairn India channelled

Cairn as shown in the chart above has been moving in a rising channel. On the least expect the stock to hit the lower side of the channel by the feb expiry. The lower side support is at 315.

Sensex expanding - USDINR contracting

For those who have been following me for the past few months, would have read my views on USDINR, heading a for possible target of 52, as early as March 2010. Also, in May 2010, I had posted my views about the formation of the channel on Sensex ( http://tradingcall.blogspot.com/2010/05/why-are-analysts-telling-you-that-16k.html ).

Both these charts have one common thing i.e. they counter each other. When USD is rising, Sensex is falling, and vice versa. Recently both have been forming contradictory triangles, Sensex is forming the expanding triangle pattern, whereas USDINR is forming the contracting triangle pattern.

USDINR charts seems to love contracting patterns. Earlier, it broke out of a massive falling wedge, and now it is forming a triangle after a sharp upmove from near 44 level. It is possibly in the last leg of the triangle, and the breakout from the triangle could possibly open up the initial target of 49.

Now what does this tell for the equity markets?

The Sensex has been trending in this massive rising channel for quite a lot of time now. The recent upmove from near 16k in May 2010 has taken the longest time, and suggests that it is possibly losing momentum to breakaway. When analysing the last leg closely, I see an expanding triangle forming (which usually form at tops). Also, the recent bounce from 17800 could be the last leg of this triangle which could rally upto 18650, taking the Sensex to a new 52week high.

The equivalent level on Nifty could be near 5600-5620. This formation on Sensex has the potential to reverse the uptrend and move towards 16400.

The last leg on both the triangle patterns could take a time period somewhere between 2 - 3 weeks.

US markets headed sideways?

Yesterday I had posted my analysis on US markets on my other blog http://sensex2nifty.blogspot.com/ . But then, I was recommended to maintain a single blog so that it would be easy to follow me. Hence I am updating the same here again.. well the Dow is currently up by over 230 points, in the direction of what I am expecting.

US markets headed sideways?

There is an increased pessimism among the investors across the globe and the mention of 'double-dip' have increased its presence in the media and most traders seem to easily forecast it. I have been quite bearish about the US markets since the end of April 2010, where the Dow made a classic 'evening star' pattern along with the rising trendline.

In the last 4 sessions, S&P500, held on to 1040 very strongly. This had made me recount the wave structure, and I see a possibility of a longer sideways correction unfolding.

The Dow seems to be in a triple flat corrective move, after having completed the 5wave down and is just holding its head above the 10k figure. The index is possibly moving in a rising channel and could do 10800 within a period of 2months.

The S&P 500 is showing a contracting triangle. I have considered the recent bottom of 1040 as the end of the wave - xx, as it has corrected near 76% of the previous up move (wave Y). This opens up a possible up-move on the index upto 1125 - 1130.

What would this signal for the Indian markets? Well, Sensex could head for the key resistance of 18650 in the near term i.e. 5600 on the Nifty. Preferably, one should wait for the Dow to cross above 10300 or 1075 on the S&P500, as a confirmation for the above reading.

Crude Oil

I have been bearish on global indices for sometime now. With the slowdown hitting Euro zone countries, analysts are also talking about a slowing US economy and the Chinese economy. These signals were evident on charts for quite sometime now.

A look at the crude oil chart confirms the above conclusion's about slowdown in major global economy. A possible weakness in the short term upto 67 - 66$ per barrel is quite likely. The medium term outlook does not look bright either as the price has broken below the 10month uptrend.

The above chart shows that the European markets (CAC - Paris considered here) could have possibly completed their pullback rally. As the European markets have led the sentiment of the investors in the recent past, and if those markets turn bearish again, we could possibly see bearish sentiments in other world indices including Nifty.

After Yesterday's sluggish close despite Infosys raly, indices opened firm. Infosys propelled for the second day with all Index majors like Tata Comm and Rel Infra pushed up the Indices.

Our Comments:
Infosys rallied upto 6% today confirming our yesterday's commentof short term bottom which clearly makes a buy on dips. Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech also look Good. ( Positional long Call in Infosys was Booked Partially with over 7% gains).

M&M; Close above 360 can take it till 438. Waiting for clear picture on the charts.

Oil and Gas sector was the prime propellers of Indices with RIL, ONGC.
Reliance pack were the major thrust for the market during the final hours of trading.
